Emily Newton – USA

It is a request for support – not for me but for my 27 year old daughter, Emily. On 2nd April, she crashed her car. Nobody else was involved and there were no witnesses. However, we think she probably swerved to avoid a wild animal running across the road in front of her.

The car went into a spin and hit a tree side-on. Emily was thrown against the door pillar and sustained severe head injuries among other things. She was air-lifted the 60 miles to one of the best neuro-surgical hospitals in the UK.

It was thought that she would not make it initially and I had to have the “vegetative state versus pull the plug” conversation with my ex-wife and son. However, she came out of the coma last Sunday and is, remarkably, (I hesitate to use the word “miraculously”) now able to sit up, walk a few paces with help and speak a few words. However, there is a long way to go and the final outcome is not clear.

I am a believer in God and in the power of prayer. I am absolutely NOT looking for sympathy here, just that those members who believe as I do – regardless of religious denomination – should please remember Emily in their prayers and ask for her speedy and full recovery.

To date, candles have been lit for her as far apart as Seattle, Connecticut, Rheims cathedral in France and St Paul’s in London.

Thank you.

Stephen
